Print Cancellations, 1979

In the late 1970's, Marion studied silk screening with Alima and later on etching with Dan Krieger. Her achievements in the field earned her a scholarship. During her internship, she reached the conclusion that she wasn't going to use the technique, and began taking various steps to cancel the prints. As an act of defiance against this act of art, which places great importance on the blank piece of paper meant for printing, she used torn scraps of paper and taped them with masking tape, thus creating a new work of art. Every one of these works was numbered, as customary in printing. The title "Print Cancellations" expresses the absurd aspect behind the action, since the phrase "print cancellations" is meaningless in the art world. The series raises questions regarding the significance of the artistic act and the role reversal between the original and the copy.
